Former Sheffield United forward impressing in France under new coach

After departing Sheffield United and experiencing his third manager change this season, Iliman Ndiaye seems to have found stability at Olympique Marseille under Jean-Louis Gasset.

Gasset, the 70-year-old coach who recently assumed the helm at Marseille following Gennaro Gattuso’s departure, has made a significant impression on the Ligue 1 club. Marseille have secured convincing victories in their last two matches, triumphing 3-1 and 4-1 respectively.

In the recent match against Montpellier, Iliman Ndiaye, formerly of Sheffield United, stood out as one of the standout players on the pitch, according to Le Figaro. Finally demonstrating the skills he had consistently exhibited at Bramall Lane, Ndiaye’s performance was lauded as a “reference game” for the forward.

The newspaper praised the Senegal international’s excellent display, noting his new supportive role for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Rather than being played as an out-and-out winger, Ndiaye was given the role of being allowed to drop deep as well as drift wide, similar to how he was used by Paul Heckingbottom last campaign.

The performance from the 23-year-old against Montpellier was sensational. Heavily involved in the action, he completed four out of four dribble attempts, while also winning a penalty. The Senegal international found the back of the net for just the second time in Ligue 1 this season.
