Tottenham decided to relieve Thomas Frank of his duties earlier last week after the club lost to Newcastle United at home in the Premier League. The defeat left the Lilywhites stranded in the bottom half of the table, just five points above 18th placed West Ham United. It also meant that the North Londoners had won just two of their last 17 league matches, forcing the club to replace the Danish tactician with Igor Tudor.
Tudor arrived at N17 on an interim basis until the end of the season. His contract does not include the option of securing a permanent role at Spurs, as he has been specifically brought in to secure the club’s top-flight status and help them finish the campaign in a respectable position. It is a risky move, and his appointment has not managed to calm the nerves of the Spurs faithful.
The fans are hoping that Tudor manages to get the best out of his players and encourages them to play front-footed, attacking football. That is something Thomas Frank failed to achieve during his time at N17. More than the performances, it is the results that will be under the spotlight, as the North Londoners cannot risk entering a relegation battle at this stage of the season.
Tottenham are quite literally living on the edge right now as they look to avoid slipping closer to the relegation spots in the Premier League. There is a sense of nervousness in and around N17 that is not helping the club in any way. The players do not seem ready for the challenge, and it is clear that the North Londoners are unprepared to face the prospect of relegation. That is exactly why they have brought in Igor Tudor as Thomas Frank’s replacement.
Jamie O Hara, however, remains unsure whether the Croatian tactician is the right man to secure Spurs’ top-flight status in the coming months. Speaking on talkSPORT, O’Hara said,
“Yeah obviously this is a tricky one for Spurs because they brought in a manager who really and truthfully fights fires. I’ll be honest, I don’t know massive amounts about him. But speaking to the Italian journalists who know him, he can get results quickly. But it’s a risky move from Tottenham though because the Premier League experience isn’t there.”
The pundit added,
“It’s key to fighting out at the bottom of the table when, you know, it’s a different set of skills you need to find your way out of trouble. Listen, if Spurs all of a sudden think they’re safe, then they’re definitely not. All I can do is get behind the guy and hopefully he can produce enough results to keep us in the league. Our season in the Premier League is truthfully over. It’s about survival.”
O’Hara claims that Igor Tudor is known for getting quick results and helping clubs out of trouble. However, the pundit believes it is still a risky move from Tottenham, as the Croatian tactician does not have Premier League experience under his belt. More importantly, Tudor lacks experience in battling relegation. That said, O’Hara is willing to back the interim manager and hopes he can turn the club’s fortunes around in the coming months.
The North Londoners cannot afford to drop more points in the Premier League in the coming months. They need to start winning matches if they are to retain their star players in the summer and attract a top manager to permanently replace Thomas Frank. Fans will hope that Igor Tudor’s men take the right approach and secure all three points against Arsenal in the north London derby this weekend.
