Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has backed Marcus Rashford to bounce back from his recent poor form.

The Frenchman believes Rashford has a lot of potential but “needs to relax” as he heads into games.

Spending four months on the sidelines due to a shoulder injury has not helped matters. We all thought that a pain-free Rashford would see him have one of his better seasons, but something isn’t right. Maybe the pain is elsewhere.

However, Rashford did show early signs that he was getting back to his best, scoring three goals in his first four appearances of the season.

But the forward has now failed to score in his last eleven appearances across all competitions for the Reds. He has been heavily criticised for his performances, with the Telegraph’s Jason Burt shifting the blame on United.

Saha, however, has backed Rashford to return to form. His analysis came after United’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Monday night.

“Physically he has recovered, but looks like he just needs more minutes,” Saha told Sky Sports. “I just think he needs to relax in some sort of way.

“The overall situation has changed. The manager has changed. The tactical aspect and the confidence of everyone has probably changed a little bit too.

“But, Marcus is just one of those players who has a lot of potential.”

SN’s verdict…

Saha knows as a former prolific goalscorer in the Premier League that strikers go through spells of bad form.

It’s a topic of conversation every year, whenever someone renowned for scoring goals suddenly stops, and we also think it won’t be long before Rashford is back to his best.

A goal this weekend against Villa in the league would be the best way to kickstart his season.
