Four Manchester United players told they are unsellable

Manchester United’s academy has become one of the club’s greatest strengths in recent years, with Carrington consistently producing talents capable of stepping into senior football.

Michael Carrick has continued that trend during pre-season, handing opportunities to a number of youngsters across friendlies against Wrexham and Rosenborg as he assesses who is ready to make the next step.

Some have grabbed the spotlight immediately. Harry Amass, for example, produced a goal and an assist against Rosenborg, while several academy players have looked comfortable training alongside the first team.

Despite those encouraging displays, not every youngster is expected to remain at Old Trafford for the upcoming campaign.

Instead, Manchester United are preparing to send many of their Under-21 players out to gain regular senior football during the 2026/27 season.

According to the Daily Mail, the club are willing to loan out the majority of their Under-21 squad in a bid to accelerate their development through consistent first-team minutes.

However, four academy prospects are considered off limits.

Shea Lacey, Jack Fletcher, Tyler Fletcher and teenage sensation JJ Gabriel are all expected to stay at the club, with United viewing the quartet as key parts of their long-term plans.

Radek Vitek, Harry Amass, Dan Gore and Toby Collyer all spent time away on loan last season and have reportedly been informed that regular opportunities with United’s senior side are unlikely this year.

United are particularly open to permanent offers for Vitek and Amass, although another loan with an option to buy is also being considered for both players.

Until any move is finalised, the pair will continue training with Carrick’s first-team squad at Carrington.

Vitek, who has featured more than any other goalkeeper during pre-season against Wrexham and Rosenborg, has attracted strong Championship interest after impressing during his loan spell at Bristol City, with Middlesbrough among the clubs monitoring his situation.

Harry Amass has also enhanced his reputation this summer after featuring in both friendlies and contributing a goal alongside an assist against Rosenborg. The left-back, valued at around £6 million, previously spent last season gaining Championship experience with Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City.

Rather than allowing their best academy prospects to stagnate, United’s latest strategy makes one thing clear; if regular football cannot be guaranteed at Old Trafford, Carrington’s brightest talents will be expected to continue their development elsewhere.
