English soccer has some great stadiums. The Premiership requires certain ground requirements to be met, so the best stadiums in England are among the top grounds in Europe. These are the finest soccer grounds in England.

Wembley

Wembley Stadium is perhaps the most famous of English stadiums. Pele once said Wembley was a cathedral of football. The national English stadium dates back to the early 20th century.

The older stadium, with its twin towers, has since been replaced by a new modern Wembley Stadium, which has up to 90,000 seats. Wembley has long been the venue for England national team games, with many of the most notable international games played at the former Wembley Stadium, where England won the FIFA World Cup in 1966. Wembley stages the FA Cup final each season, and has also hosted European and Champions League games and cup finals. Aside from soccer, Wembley also hosts other sports events such as Rugby and even American football, as well as concerts. Undoubtedly, with such a fine history and sparkling new arena, Wembley is a great soccer venue.

Old Trafford

Old Trafford is Man Utd’s stadium, and the biggest club ground in England, with 74,197 seats. The Theatre of Dreams has played host to some great Premiership and Champions League games as Utd’s teams have played for the Premiership and Champions League titles. A record number of Premier League titles have been won by Utd, and so Old Trafford has been the most consistent home for the trophy in this respect.

Great players have played at this stadium, such as Charlton, Best, and Ronaldo, along with other top European players. Aside from Utd games, Old Trafford has also staged FA Cup semi-finals, such as Wolves vs. Grimsby, World Cup games in 1966, and England international team games.

Yet, Old Trafford might also be a stadium that has had its day, as it’s showing its age. Manchester Utd has announced its plan to move to a new 100,000 seater stadium. When that new stadium is complete, the Red Devils will demolish Old Trafford. What replaces it will be the biggest and maybe the best stadium in England.

Anfield

Anfield is the stadium of Liverpool FC, which makes it one of the most notable English soccer grounds. With 61,276 seats after more recent stand expansions, Anfield is one of the biggest soccer venues in England. Anfield is renowned for the Kop chants of ‘never walk alone’ above the Shankly Gates. The stadium also features the Paisley Gates, the manager who won three European Cups for the club. Many great Liverpool teams have won trophies at this stadium, with players such as Rush, Dalglish, and Gerrard bringing domestic and European glory to the club. Anfield also hosted European Championship games, such as Italy vs Russia and Russia vs the Czech Republic in 1996.

Unlike Old Trafford, Anfield will remain among the finest soccer stadiums in England for a long time, as Liverpool has decided to expand rather than demolish it. Plans for Liverpool to move to a new stadium never went ahead. Thus, the emphasis is now on redeveloping Anfield to keep it among the foremost soccer venues in Europe.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the latest super stadium to grace English soccer. Although Tottenham Hotspur Stadium doesn’t have the history of Old Trafford, in terms of modern facilities, it is a superior stadium. This 62,875 stadium boasts advanced technology, most notably its retractable pitch and HD screens. Its padded seating and bigger range of premium amenities also eclipse what Old Trafford includes. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is very much a ground of the future, while Old Trafford will become history when Manchester Utd demolishes it.
