Dominic Solanke has not endured a successful first season at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke has struggled to hit the ground running in his first season at N17. The England international joined the Lilywhites last summer for a deal worth £65million from Bournemouth. However, the 27-year-old has still not shown his capabilities in North London and has found it difficult to put the ball in the net this season.

As per Sofascore , Solanke has managed to score just 12 goals in 39 games for the Lilywhites this season. The numbers are poor and it has certainly not helped Ange Postecoglou’s cause. Spurs also find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League table and have struggled to carve out positive results in recent months.

The prolific striker missed out on crucial games with a knee injury midway through the season, and since then, Solanke has struggled to get back into rhythm and spearhead the Tottenham attack. The 27-year-old has acknowledged the fact that it has been a difficult campaign for him, but also wants to get back to his best and help the team out as they face a crucial tie in the Europa League semi-finals next week.

Louis Saha gives verdict on Dominic Solanke’s struggles at Tottenham

Dominic Solanke came to Tottenham after a tremendous campaign with Bournemouth. The England international managed to score 19 league goals for the Cherries, which earned him a move to N17 last summer. However, the 27-year-old has failed to replicate that form for the Lilywhites this season.

When asked about Solanke’s struggles at Spurs, Louis Saha told Mega Dice (via London World),

“I’ve seen that Solanke has been injured. He’s been adapting, and he didn’t maybe score as much this season. Tottenham is a big club with big expectations. I think the team didn’t play well or didn’t perform. They were fragile.”

The ex-Premier League striker added,

“That’s why they are well down the table, though they did perform in the Europa League. Some players haven’t performed, and at times Brennan Johnson’s scoring gave Solanke time to adapt. I think the team is still in transition, still trying to find this kind of confidence.”

Louis Saha believes that Solanke’s failures at Tottenham have been down to the system that Ange Postecoglou has adapted. The former Premier League striker insists that Solanke has found it tough to adapt to the change in environment and the injury crisis at the club have certainly not helped his cause. Saha also believes that Spurs are lacking in confidence, which has affected the performances of certain players.

With crucial games coming thick and fast, fans can only hope that the Spurs No.19 will step up and help the North London club reach the promised land in the Europa League. The Lilywhites have a tremendous chance of ending their 17-year-long wait for a trophy and are within touching distance of winning the competition and qualify for Champions League football next season.
