French club set to cut costs which could see ex Blade return to England

Marseille are compelled to cut costs as Everton expresses interest in acquiring Iliman Ndiaye from them this month, as per information from L’Equipe.

The French newspaper revealed on January 10th, through its website, that Marseille allocated £123 million for wages during the 2023/24 financial year, contributing to substantial losses since American businessman Frank McCourt acquired the Ligue 1 club in 2016.

It is believed that Marseille’s sporting director, Pablo Longoria, must persuade the club’s American accountants to approve additional player signings this month. However, privately, he has discussed the necessity of lowering the club’s overall wage expenditure.

According to L’Equipe, several English clubs are monitoring Marseille’s players, with Everton specifically showing interest in the 23-year-old forward Ndiaye. This interest reportedly dates back to the summer when he was initially linked with a move to Goodison Park, but he ultimately joined Marseille after leaving Sheffield United.

However, the Toffees are treading carefully when it comes to finances. Even if 777 Partners successfully finalises their prolonged takeover before the conclusion of the January transfer window on 1 February, it does not guarantee that Dyche and Kevin Thelwell will have unrestricted freedom to spend on any player of their choosing.
