Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is reportedly being pursued by several clubs for a potential transfer this month, with Olympique Lyon emerging as one of the latest clubs to show an interest in him.

Sebastien Denis, a journalist and chief editor of Foot Mercato, revealed this recent development. Lyon’s interest in Hojbjerg is apparent, although the deal is deemed complicated due to the associated high costs.

Despite the financial challenges, Lyon are actively exploring the possibility of securing the Danish midfielder’s signature.

Having recently acquired Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic from Rennes for €2.6 million, Lyon is keen to bolster its midfield further.

The club sees Hojbjerg as an attractive option, not only for his playing profile but also because of his proficiency in the French language.

Hojbjerg currently has less than 18 months remaining on his contract and Tottenham have decided against renewing his contract, as he does not feature in Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

The 28-year-old has found himself lower in the pecking order under head coach Postecoglou, appearing in 20 league matches but starting in only 5. The player has primarily served as a substitute, often entering the game during its final stages.

Due to the lack of playing time, the defensive midfielder is eager for a transfer, seeking consistent playing opportunities.

However, it has been suggested that the club are only keen on letting him leave on a permanent deal or a loan which involves an obligation to buy.
