Over the last couple of weeks, there has been plenty of speculation surrounding the future of Frenkie de Jong. Recent reports have claimed that Barcelona could look to sell the Dutch midfielder due to their ongoing financial crisis, especially given that he is the club’s highest earner by a considerable distance.

Because of this, de Jong has been strong linked with a number of top clubs across Europe, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. However, those interested in doing a deal have now been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the 26-year-old’s signature.

Speaking to the media ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League last 16 first leg clash with Napoli, de Jong has stated that the speculation surrounding him is untrue, and the claims made about him have significant irritated him, as per MD.

“The truth is that I’m a bit with what you people in general write. A lot of things come out that aren’t true, it angers me. It’s a lot of smoke, a lot of lies, the truth is that it’s far from reality. They have made up a story that is not true. I’m very happy at Barcelona, it’s the club of my dreams. I hope I can continue playing here for many years.”

De Jong has spoken in the past of his desire to remain at Barcelona for a long time, and that stance still rings true. However, it’s also true that at least one big sale is needed this summer, and if it’s not him, it has to be someone else.
