The transfer window activity hasn’t quite kicked into gear yet for Tottenham, who will surely be waiting on Thomas Frank’s assessment of his squad before making moves. Sure, Kota Takai is a done deal, but even that modest move has yet to be formally announced. There has been increased speculation about Eberechi Eze; however, that also remains another one in the pipeline.
What is for certain is that clubs need that fresh churn of players, even a gentle one, to keep the outlook fresh. Yes, we won the Europa League, but that was on the back of winning ten games of essential Euro-trash. This is not, under any circumstances, a squad looking to build on the back of that success, because this season, that success cannot be duplicated.
Champions League football is far more likely to swallow Tottenham whole than it is to prove we’re some sleeping giant, about to go on a rampage across the very best of the world’s club sides. To think otherwise is worryingly naive.
Getfootballnewsitaly are running with the suggestion that Spurs have mounted a serious intent to snap up striker Jonathan David on a ‘free’ as his contract with Lille has expired. It is added that discussions with Juventus and Napoli have slowed, due to Tottenham having reached out to discuss the possibility of a deal.
“They [Tottenham] made contact for the forward last week and have stopped the two Italian sides from progressing in their respective moves for the Canada international.”
With 16 goals and 5 assists in Ligue 1, not to mention 7 goals and 2 assists in the Champions League, last time out, David’s recent record isn’t too shabby. Certainly, the Canadian would be an obvious and immediate upgrade on Richarlison.
For me, the Spurs’ frontline is dysfunctional, at best, and it may be the case that Thomas Frank will be seeking to produce some growth by adding fresh names to the mix. That’s what I would recommend. The idea of, once again, Solanke and the Brazilian earnestly bumbling about, gives me the horrors.
If the wages aren’t implausible, get the lad in.
