Manchester United are plotting a sensational surprise move to bring former goalkeeper David De Gea back to the club, reports from Italy claim.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new goalkeeper as former Inter man Andre Onana still fails to completely convince in Manchester.

According to what has been reported by English tabloid The Sun, via the Corriere dello Sport, the club have engaged in discreet follow-up phone calls after Fiorentina’s friendly against United, in which De Gea returned to Old Trafford.

De Gea clause opens door to United?

This shocking transfer could be made easier, as the Sun report of a clause in De Gea’s contract with Fiorentina. The claim is that said clause would allow the Spaniard to leave the Viola for a low price.

On his Instagram after the friendly, De Gea wrote “Our paths could cross again” in response to the United fans, who gave him overwhelming supporting during the pre-season fixture.
