Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been linked with multiple clubs in recent weeks.
He could be on his way out of the club at the end of the season, and the North London outfit have not initiated any talks with the player regarding a new deal.
Fabrizio Romano has also added that Tottenham might not be looking to extend his contract in the coming months either.
Therefore, it seems that they could be open to letting the player move on. Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are keen on signing the World Cup winner, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
Romano said on the Here We Go Podcast: “From what I’m hearing, there is no active conversation between Tottenham and Cristian Romero to extend the contract. And that’s the crucial point, I think.
“In this moment, Cristian Romero is not discussing a new deal, and it’s probably also not something they are expecting to do in the next months.
“So there is a possibility to see movements around Romero.”
The development will certainly worry Tottenham fans, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. Losing a player of his calibre would be a devastating blow for the club. He is undoubtedly the best central defender at Tottenham right now. They need to hold on to players of his quality if they want to fight for major trophies.
It has been a disappointing season for Tottenham, and they cannot afford to weaken the squad further. They should look to keep the spine of their squad intact and bring in a quality signing during the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Romero could be attracted to the idea of joining a big club where he will be able to win major trophies. Tottenham should do their best to convince him to stay.
