The last 24 hours at Old Trafford have certainly been an intense period, as once again, Manchester United find themselves without a manager.
For some time now, doubts have surrounded Ruben Amorim’s time with The Red Devils, as the Portuguese manager’s stubbornness to stick to his tactics was failed to see results.
Tensions were reportedly brewing between Ruben Amorim and Jason Wilcox, which, this morning, has resulted in the former Sporting CP manager being sacked.
The decision comes 14 months after Amorim was hired to replace Erik ten Hag, seeing yet another manager come and go through the seemingly revolving doors at Carrington.
Now, as United fans are all too used to, a whole host of names are being thrown out to be Ruben Amorim’s replacement.
Routine favourites like Gareth Southgate and Oliver Glasner are once more being talked about, while Darren Fletcher is taking charge of the Burnley clash this Wednesday.
After that, it’s believed a caretaker manager will be taken on to see out the rest of the season, with a new name now in the mix in the form of Fulham’s Marco Silva.
The Sun has reported that Fulham are concerned that Manchester United are going to look to their manager as a replacement for Amorim.
Marco Silva has been at Craven Cottage since September 2021, having won 95 of his 208 games with the London-based side.
However, the Fulham boss’ contract is set to be up in the summer, with new contract negotiations having stalled since November 2025 over a three and a half year contract.
Whilst this is the first his name is being mentioned today, he was one of the named options to replace ten Hag before Amorim got the job.
For now, no-one knows who will be drafted in to replace Amorim, or when it will happen, however, United are now looking for their seventh permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson.
