Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno admits his departure from Arsenal was bitter.

The Germany international is in his second season with the Cottagers.

Leno told The Times: "When I realised it wasn't a question of performance, I immediately thought I had to leave. I don't know if they didn't want two strong goalkeepers. I had one year left on my contract and it was the last chance I could be sold."

Leno then discussed the battle between Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya at Arsenal.

It happened again after the international break. I was thinking, 'This is pretty much the same thing that happened to me!' I was thinking about Aaron, he's a really good guy. I know how it feels, there are some similarities. When I wanted to fight for my position, the goalkeeping coach told me: 'You have to leave the club'."
