The future of Isak has dominated this window, with the Swedish striker making it clear he’s not interested in a move to Saudi Arabia, with Liverpool now the only club in concrete talks. 

One of the replacements considered by the Magpies has been Brentford forward Wissa, who has reportedly been left “furious” by Brentford’s reluctance to sell, with the forward intending not to train or play for the West London club again. It’s been a difficult summer for the Bees, losing key players and their manager, Thomas Frank. Sky Sports reports Wissa is hopeful Newcastle have not given up on him.

Keith Andrews, the Brentford head coach, has made it clear that he expects the forward to report back for training: “He has gone back to London. It was his decision, obviously because of speculation,” Andrews told the official Brentford media team after his first game in charge of the Bees against Gil Vicente ended in a 1-1 draw.

“There are clubs interested and he felt it was the right thing to go back to London.

“It’s simple really, he folds back into the group next week when we come back to training.”

Wissa only has 12 months left on his current deal, but Brentford do hold the option for another year. At 28 years old, Wissa feels this is a golden opportunity for him to play Champions League football, an option he may never get again.
