Galaxy, GK Jonathan Bond mutually part ways on eve of season
Kiyoshi Mio-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Galaxy and goalkeeper Jonathan Bond mutually agreed to part ways on Thursday, just three days before the squad opens its season against visiting Inter Miami.

Bond, 30, was the Galaxy's regular goalkeeper the past three seasons and had 15 shutouts in 89 starts. Last season, he had six clean sheets in 24 starts.

"We would like to thank Jonathan for his commitment and contribution to the Galaxy during his time here in Los Angeles," general manager Will Kuntz said in a news release. "We wish Bondy and his family all the best in their next chapter."

The Galaxy signed veteran goalkeeper John McCarthy for two years in the offseason. McCarthy, 31, was MVP of the 2022 MLS Cup when Los Angeles FC won the title.

Overall, McCarthy has 15 shutouts in 68 appearances (67 starts) in eight previous MLS seasons with the Philadelphia Union (2015-18), Inter Miami (2020-21) and Los Angeles FC (2022-23). He had a career-high eight shutouts in 25 starts for LAFC last season.

The Galaxy also have Novak Micovic on the roster. Micovic, 22, allowed six goals in two starts last season, his first in the MLS.
