Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher was delighted with his role in their European qualification.

A late season surge saw Chelsea finish in sixth place and secure Europa League football for next season.

While not mentioning former manager Mauricio Pochettino in his discussion with the club's website, Gallagher said: "It was a fantastic end to the season,' he opened, when speaking to us recently. 'I think we won the last five games and it's a great achievement for us.

"Securing European football is also a great achievement considering where we were at, but the expectation at Chelsea is more than what we have achieved this season. Everyone knows that but considering the moment, it's a great achievement."

Of his own progress, the 24 year-old continued: "Personally, I think it's been a successful season for myself.

"I'm really thankful to the fans for believing in me and showing their support throughout the season because it has helped me grow in confidence and perform the way we have, so I'm very thankful for that.

"I've scored a few goals which has been very nice. You can't beat the feeling of scoring and I'm really happy that I've been able to help the team out because that's the most important thing."
