Liverpool managed to hold Arsenal to a goalless draw in their midweek Premier League fixture.
Even so, calls for Arne Slot’s dismissal were heard from some fans during the first half against the league leaders.
Despite the slow start, the Reds improved after the break, controlling more possession and earning a point away from home.
While they are no longer in the title hunt, a top-four finish is still within reach.
Although the mood around Liverpool has calmed since that result, there are still whispers that everything behind closed doors is not running smoothly.
Liverpool were not expected to be very active in the January transfer window, according to reports at the time.
The lack of additions has left the Dutchman working with a thin squad, which was clear against Arsenal when he opted not to make any substitutions during the match.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Gary Lineker touched on rumours of tension between Richard Hughes, Liverpool’s sporting director, and Slot.
“You know, the people up in the top want to make the decisions. We saw that obviously with Maresca. We’ve seen that now with Amorim.
“Very strong rumours around Liverpool at the moment. There’s a bit of a fallout between Arne Slot and I think it’s Richard Hughes running the operations there.”
“People want their say on team matters and et cetera,” he explained.
It is still unclear if there is any truth to the rumours about Slot and Hughes not seeing eye to eye.
What is clear, though, is that Liverpool could use a bit more urgency in the transfer market.
Marc Guehi is not expected to arrive this window. Recent reports suggest that while Manchester City are keen to get him now, Liverpool are looking at him as a summer target.
Meanwhile, Antoine Semenyo is on his way to City, and Liverpool have not come close to landing anyone for the first team yet.
The squad was already thin before injuries made things even worse. On Thursday, the lack of depth compared to Arsenal was hard to miss, but FSG do not seem in any rush to make changes this month.
