Gary Lineker TRASHES Erling Haaland for missing open goal in Manchester Derby, brands it as ‘worst miss ever’

There is no debate to the fact that Erling Haaland is one of the best strikers in the Premier League. However, as it has been the case on several occasions, the Norwegian has a talent for missing golden opportunities as well. This was laid bare for fans to scrutinize during the Manchester Derby as City’s No.9 had a head in hands moment right on the strike of half-time.

Manchester City have made a habit of easing past their ‘biggest‘ rival, Manchester United . The Etihad was witness to the same on Sunday, as City came from behind to beat United 3-1. Even though Manchester City got back to within a point of Liverpool, Haaland was not spared for his miss. Marcus Rashford had put the Red Devils in the driving seat after stunning the home crowd from a beautiful long ranger.

City had a golden opportunity to draw level as Phil Foden headed the ball for Haaland to guide into an empty net. Confused as to whether he should use his leg or head, the ball agonizingly went above the crossbar.

Former footballer and legend Gary Lineker did not mince his words when reacting to the miss. He labelled it as the worst miss he’d seen at the highest level of the sport.

That might be the worst miss I've ever seen at this level. @ErlingHaaland has to head it. Incredible. Gary Lineker on X.

Comeback win sinks Man United as Pep Guardiola and City get back in the title mix

Manchester City fans are buzzing with excitement as the Manchester Derby ended in their favor yet again. The Cityzens mustered an impressive comeback win against their rivals as Phil Foden and Erling Haaland provided the goods for the home side. Marcus Rashford scored what was arguably the best goal of his season to put the game wide open in the eighth minute.

After a poor miss from Haaland had the crowd in disbelief, the second half fared much better for the hosts. Phil Foden definitely pulled a rabbit out of the hat with a sublime goal from outside the box. United’s hopes of salvaging a point were put to bed when Foden and Julian Alvarez combined to score the winner. Sofyan Amrabat had his pocket picked in a vulnerable position, and was cruelly punished for his error.

Soon after Foden’s second, Haaland made up for his missed chance in the first half. While many hoped the player would terrorize the United defence, his late goal to kill the game was equally satisfying for the home crowd. Erik ten Hag and his men now find themselves in 6th position, and eleven points away from the top four. City are within a point of Liverpool, thus making their upcoming Sunday clash at Anfield even more exciting.
