The summer arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha have significantly boosted Manchester United’s new strike force.

There were a lot of changes to the squad when Ineos took charge last summer, but their main focus was to strengthen United’s front line. Sesko, Mbeumo and Cunha were all brought in as part of that overhaul.

They replaced Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford. The new trio made an immediate impact at Old Trafford, settling quickly and making valuable contributions early on.

Mbeumo leads United in goals this season with 10 across all competitions. Meanwhile, Sesko has been in excellent form recently, scoring his seventh goal in eight games during the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Before the season kicked off, Gary Neville set a 35-goal target for the new look attack. According to him, reaching that number would signal a strong first campaign.

“Can they embed in themselves at United? Can they get them probably 35-40 goals which would probably be par for those three players?” the former full-back said (via Hayters).

“But they’ve got to settle those three players and we can’t take that for granted anymore at United, I don’t think.”

With 25 goals already between them and still 10 Premier League games left to play, Sesko, Mbeumo and Cunha are closing in on Neville’s mark.

And the way they are playing under Michael Carrick suggests they could hit it before long.

Benjamin Sesko is proving Gary Neville wrong

Sesko has been criticised by Neville, who called him an ‘awkward’ player earlier in the season. But the 22-year-old is starting to answer those critics.

The Man Utd legend has continued to point out Sesko’s limitations, saying he may never be a ‘perfect’ striker. However, the young forward is putting together a strong first season at Old Trafford.

Sesko is just one goal shy of matching Mbeumo as United’s top scorer, and his scoring rate under Carrick – despite limited starts – has been impressive.

While Cunha and Mbeumo have rightly received praise for their debut campaigns, Sesko also deserves recognition for how quickly he has adapted to a new league at such a young age.
