Gasperini and Atalanta Set for Key Summit, Napoli Loom

The courtship by Napoli has broken through, but the Atalanta hierarchy will try to reel Gian Piero Gasperini in and convince him to stay in an upcoming meeting. The gaffer is tempted to go out on top after finally lifting a trophy, La Gazzetta dello Sport relayed.

The boss wants to further raise the bar and would like to compete for the Scudetto. La Dea would need to change their MO for that to happen, keeping all their top players and making investments.

Gasperini colorfully explained his dilemma between Atalanta and Napoli following the Europa League final.

“It’s like choosing between a wife with kids and a beautiful woman.”

The skipper would like his side not to necessarily pursue ‘plusvalenze’ as they had done in recent years. He’s fine with adding mostly youngsters, but two or three proven champions would take the squad to a higher level. He’d like more offensive weapons, at least one reinforcement on the wings, and one extra midfielder since their rotation is very thin.

The management will push for Teun Koopmeiners’ permanence despite the upcoming rich offers. He’s under contract till 2025, so the parties would need to agree to a new one to stick together.
