Gian Piero Gasperini has decided to move forward with Atalanta following their Europa League triumph, forcing Napoli to turn to Antonio Conte, reports detail.

The 66-year-old Italian tactician finally won his first trophy with la Dea on Wednesday, when his side cruised to a 3-0 win over Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis began targeting Gasperini as his primary option to become the new long-term coach in the Campania capital, needing to start a new project in the summer. Conte has long been considered an option, as are Stefano Pioli and Vincenzo Italiano.

Gasperini decision

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Gasperini has decided to stay with Atalanta following his meeting with club president Antonio Percassi, happy with the promise of investments and confirmation that no top players would be sold this summer.

His decision has forced Napoli to look elsewhere for their new head coach, turning to Conte, who is keen to return to Serie A for next season.
