There is not yet an agreement between Gian Piero Gasperini and Roma, as the club’s financial constraints are reportedly the main obstacle preventing the two parties from reaching a deal.
The Atalanta coach has been negotiating with the Giallorossi over the past week, as his nine-year tenure at the Gewiss Stadium appears to be coming to an end.
However, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that a meeting between Gasperini and the Friedkin family in Tuscany focused on the challenges the Italian coach would face in his first season, due to Roma’s inability to cover a €60m deficit required to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.
This would significantly limit the club’s spending power in the upcoming year, potentially clashing with the coach’s desire to build a team capable of immediately competing for ambitious targets.
Gasperini’s overall impression of Dan and Ryan Friedkin remains positive, but the club will need some time to determine how it can offer the manager the technical guarantees he seeks while also adhering to their financial constraints.
