La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Milan are ready to extend Mike Maignan’s contract especially after Stefano Pioli and Olivier Giroud said the France international can become the dressing room’s leader in the coming years.

Milan are ready to sit down with France international Maignan to offer him a contract extension and an improved salary.

Monday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, on page 26, claims the Rossoneri directors will offer Maignan a pay rise, so his sale in the summer is not on the cards.

Maignan earns €3.2m per season and has never signed a contract extension since joining Milan in 2021. He will predictably become one of the highest earners in the team, but the report does not mention how much he’ll be offered.

Gazzetta: Milan ready to extend Maignan’s contract after Pioli and Giroud’s claims

Previous reports claimed Maignan had demanded the same wages as Rafael Leao. The Portuguese ace is the highest earner at San Siro with a €7m-a-year salary, including add-ons.

Both Pioli and Giroud crowned Maignan as a potential dressing-room leader during their post-match interviews on Saturday, which were their last ones at the club.

According to Gazzetta, this means Milan will offer Maignan a new deal and will not consider offers for the Frenchman this summer.

Theo Hernandez or Rafael Leao, on the other hand, could leave the Rossoneri but only if the Serie A giants receive suitable offers.
