Fiorentina are closing in on an agreement to sign Albert Gudmundsson on a permanent deal from Genoa, but for a fee lower than the option to buy clause in his loan agreement with the Viola, Football Italia understands.
Gudmundsson spent the 2024-25 season on loan with Fiorentina from Genoa. La Viola spent a fee of €8m to bring the Iceland international on board for the season, and had an option to buy permanently for a further €17m.
As revealed last week, Fiorentina have decided against activating their €17m option to buy clause, but remain interested in signing Gudmundsson permanently for a slightly lower fee.
The situation is now progressing, and in the next few hours, there could be further contact between Fiorentina and Genoa as they attempt to come to an agreement.
Football Italia understands that Genoa are now open to the suggestion of giving Fiorentina a slight ‘discount’ on Gudmundsson, who could be allowed to leave for a fee in the region of €12m-€13m.
