Genoa and Fiorentina have identified their next coaches, Daniele De Rossi and Paolo Vanoli, and will install them before the next Serie A round, without waiting for the break. The former has already been announced, while the latter will be after Thursay’s Conference League game. Both agreed to a season-long contract with an option, Gianluca Di Marzio informs.

The Roma legend was the frontrunner for the Rossoblù job from the get-go. He returns following a year-long hiatus, as he was sacked by Roma in September 2024 after a loss to the Grifone. He guided the Giallorossi for 22 games, totaling 13 wins, 10 draws, and 7 losses in 30 games. The former midfielder got his start at SPAL and assisted Roberto Mancini on the Italy bench.

Genoa and Fiorentina will be helmed by De Rossi and Vanoli as they square off on Sunday. The former won’t technically be on the bench, as he’s suspended. The latter wasn’t confirmed by Torino after finishing in 11th place.

After helping Antonio Conte in various stops, he branched out on his own, managing Spartak Moscow and Venezia for two seasons, leading them back to Serie A.

Our Take on Genoa and Fiorentina Hiring De Rossi and Vanoli

It’s not a great look for the Viola that it could and perhaps should have been the other way around, but at least their new boss has a higher profile and a more modern style than Roberto D’Aversa. There were definitely more ambitious options available. As for the Rossoblù, it’s a gutsy call to go with an up-and-comer to navigate the relegation struggle. His Roma spell was up-and-down and a little chaotic. He somewhat fits the team’s gritty ethos, though.
