Genoa supporters focused all their efforts on mocking rivals Sampdoria following their historic relegation to Serie C, including banners, flags and signs.
The Grifone have secured their own top flight status comfortably this season and close out the campaign with their final home game against Atalanta.
You can see how that develops on the Liveblog.
There was a celebratory atmosphere at Marassi, both because these two teams have already achieved their targets, but also because Genoa’s city rivals Sampdoria were this week relegated to Serie C for the first time in their history.
Naturally, the Grifone fans took the opportunity to mock their neighbours in the stadium that they both share, the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, also known as Marassi for the area of the city where it resides.
They promised to stage ‘a funeral’ for Sampdoria following their drop into the third division.
A huge banner in the stands read simply: ‘Thank you, Manfredi and Radrizzani.’
It was a dedication to the two club owners who ran Sampdoria into the ground in recent months, Matteo Manfredi and former Leeds United patron Andrea Radrizzani.
Another placed under a huge ‘C’ symbol in Samp colours read: ‘Another wonderful season is over, from the promotion dream to the humiliating relegation.’
All the Bs in the lettering had fallen down, and the Cs were made far bigger in bright red.
Thousands of fans held up printed placards with ‘C’ on them, while some had crosses in Samp colours.
There had already been celebrations in the city from Genoa fans on the night of Sampdoria’s relegation, setting off fireworks and partying in the streets.
