Genoa are considering a late move to bring Ivorian wing-back Maxwel Cornet back to the club, as reports from Italy claim head coach Patrick Vieira was impressed by the West Ham defender’s loan spell in Liguria last season.

According to reports from Il Secolo XIX, via TuttoMercatoWeb, Cornet’s return to Genoa is possible but only if the player was to take a salary cut from the €4 million net per season he earns in London.

The reports also claim that former Brighton and Everton striker Neal Maupay was offered to Vieira’s club but his wage demands were too high for the club to afford at this point in time.

Good summer for Genoa as West Ham’s Cornet could be icing on the cake

Il Secolo report of a meeting on Monday between head coach Vieira and the club’s senior management, with the Frenchman giving the board his confidence in the decisions that have been made in the market so far.

Cornet is not the only former Genoa loanee the club are looking into the possibility of bringing back, however, with Besiktas’ Jean Onana also a possibility.

However, Genoa need to balance the books and player sales are almost certainly needed before any last-minute additions are made. Emil Bohinen looks set to join Venezia and Alessandro Vogliacco is wanted by Pisa, Cagliari and PAOK.
