Genoa are set to appoint Daniele De Rossi as their new coach, so the ex-Italy international will be in charge for the next Serie A match against Fiorentina.

Genoa won’t wait any longer to appoint a new coach as they are set to announce De Rossi’s appointment.

Sources with direct knowledge of the matter tell me that De Rossi will sign a contract until the end of the season with an option to extend if the Grifone secures survival this season.

De Rossi will make his debut in an away game at Fiorentina on Sunday.

Genoa decided to appoint the 2006 Italy international immediately and not wait until the upcoming international break.

The club decided to do so mostly because De Rossi could have received other offers in the coming days, with a risk of a reshuffling of the cards with respect to a decision that had already been made.

Genoa also held talks with Paolo Vanoli after Patrick Vieira was sacked last week, but eventually picked De Rossi.

Roberto Murgita and Domenico Criscito only led the team for one game after Vieira’s dismissal, but helped the Grifone secure their first victory this season, beating Sassuolo away 2-1 on Monday.
