Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall has clearly worked his way up to reach the highest level. He impressed at various clubs in his homeland before joining the Lilywhites on a long-term deal last year.
Such was his performances in his debut season that Spurs did not hesitate to reward the teenager with a new contract in April. Lucas Bergvall has played a key role in Tottenham’s strong start to the 2025/26 campaign, with Thomas Frank’s side sitting third in the Premier League table after six games.
The Swede played as a No.8 under Ange Postecoglou and started 11 times in the Premier League last season. Thomas Frank has given him a new role in his system, i.e. the No.10 role, and he seems to be thriving. It is fair to say that the teenager has been giving a different dynamic than Pape Matar Sarr as a No.10 and impacting the games in the final third, having already registered a goal and an assist in six Premier League games.
Bergvall was not a regular in the Spurs side for the first few games of the season but has made himself nearly undroppable with the performances he has delivered since the West Ham United game.
The Stockholm-born talent is touted as the next ‘Jude Bellingham’ for the way he carries himself on the pitch. Ex-Brentford boss Martin Allen has compared Bergvall with Arsenal star Declan Rice and claims he will not sell the Spurs man for not less than £110m. Frank has admitted that the 19-year-old has a very high ceiling, and the White Hart Lane faithful will be hoping that the Danish tactician is the right man to unlock his potential, given his exciting track record of improving players at Brentford.
Bergvall accompanied his boss to the press conference ahead of the Champions League game against Bodo/Glimt. When asked what he has been working on with Frank, he made a revelation about his new role. The Sweden international feels that he is improving day by day and is now more of a No.10 rather than a No.8.
“I feel like I’m getting better every day. I played a bit of an eight in the beginning, now more of a 10 in the end,” Bergvall said (h/t Football London).
“And it feels like I’m adding more and more to my game every day. So yeah, I try to help the team with contributions, with goals and assists as well. So just getting better every day and improving, yeah.

Tottenham travel to Norway to face Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday evening in their second league phase fixture of the Champions League. They will want to register back-to-back wins in the European competition, following their narrow success over Villarreal.
A game at Bodo means Bergvall returns to Scandinavia, and he will be raring to impress. Having a player who has grown up playing in artificial surfaces is an advantage for Tottenham, one Frank must aim to use right from the onset.
