Alberto Gilardino is officially the new coach of Pisa, who earned promotion to Serie A this summer, signing a two-year contract with option for a third.

The team finished runners-up in Serie B this season behind Sassuolo and were guided by Pippo Inzaghi, who opted to walk away for a new challenge at Palermo instead.

Gilardino begins again from Pisa

There were several major candidates for the role, but Gilardino quickly emerged as the hot favourite.

He first had to terminate his contract with Genoa by mutual consent, even though they fired him in November 2024.

A formal statement from Pisa confirms that Gilardino has signed a two-year contract, with an option for a third season.

The coach turns 43 next month and as a player was part of the Italy squad that won the 2006 World Cup.

Pisa are back in Serie A after a 34-year absence and will be one of 20 clubs in the top flight for the 2025-26 term.
