Gio Reyna's parents leaked information on Gregg Berhalter to U.S. Soccer

It's an understatement to say that Gregg Berhalter's exit from the U.S. men's national team has turned into a soap opera. And now, the saga appears to also involve betrayal involving two of Berhalter's long-time friends.

ESPN reported this week that Claudio and Danielle Reyna -- parents of 20-year-old player Gio Reyna -- leaked information to U.S. Soccer about Berhalter and a past domestic violence incident involving Berhalter's now-wife, Rosalind. There are also reports that Claudio Reyna threatened to expose Berhalter even though the two men have been friends for decades.

Why would the Reynas do this to someone they consider a friend?

Danielle confirmed to The Athletic this week that she leaked the information about Berhalter after the embattled ex-manager limited Gio's role in the recent World Cup in Qatar and then tried to make an example out of him at a recent leadership conference.

Suffice to say, the fallout from this bombshell has already started. Fans from all corners of the soccer world have already taken to social media to call out the Reynas for blowing up Berhalter's career because they didn't like their son's role on the World Cup team. Others have commented that their actions will impact Gio's playing career going forward.

And while Berhalter's fate has already been handed down -- he has been replaced as head coach -- it isn't clear yet how the Reynas will fair in the soccer world. There have even been calls for Gio to be barred from playing for USMNT in the future.

Stay tuned. There's no way this story is going to fade away any time soon.
