Stefano Pioli still has a year left on his contract with AC Milan, but his farewell at the end of the season is now practically a certainty. However, he might not have to wait long to get back into work.

According to what is being reported by Il Giornale (via MilanNews), Pioli is actually in pole position to take Calzona’s place at the helm of Napoli and there have already been positive contacts between the Azzurri and the entourage of the Milan bos.

A two-year contract worth €3m net per year plus bonuses is ready for Pioli to sign, something that he would be free to do if the reports are true and Milan part ways with him after the final three league games.

Pioli’s adventure on the Milan bench is expected end after four and a half years, in which management achievements such as bringing them back to being a consistent participant in the Champions League and the 19th Scudetto win.

His numbers with the Rossoneri at present read as follows: 237 matches, 131 wins, 55 draws, 51 defeats, 428 goals scored and 275 goals conceded. That seems to have been enough to convince Napoli that he is the right man to lead them into a new era.

It was recently estimated that Pioli and his staff – when factoring in remaining salaries and taxes – would cost the club around €10m in order to terminate their contracts early. Finding an agreement on severance pay may therefore not be easy, so if he had another job lined up it would be a relief.
