Celtic have been dealt a blow ahead of Saturday’s Glasgow Derby against Rangers after Cameron Carter-Vickers was forced off injured. The USA Internationalist is comfortably Celtic’s strongest defender but following Paolo Bernardo’s goal, CCV was replaced by Stephen Welsh.

It appeared that he was indicating his right leg – either his knee or hamstring, both issues that he has had this year. Either way, Saturday will see Rangers arrive in Glasgow’s East End and Carter-Vickers will be a doubt for the game.

Hopefully, it was merely a precaution from him and the management team that he was replaced with Saturday in mind and that he is fit to get himself back into contention for the starting XI.

The central defender will benefit from having a few days to recover ahead of the game but the fear will be that he doesn’t make it.

Celtic have already beaten Rangers this season without Carter-Vickers when Kyogo’s goal sealed the first meeting of the season back in September.

Earlier this afternoon, Carter-Vickers was involved in a flashpoint when Trevor Carson and Joe Shaughnessy grabbed hold of the player’s head and upper body. Remarkably, VAR did not intervene after Don Robertson clearly missed the incident.

Hopefully CCV is fit for the weekend as we will need the strongest XI that we can muster for the top of the table clash.
