The Glazer family remain deeply unpopular among sections of Manchester United’s support.
Many fans are convinced the club cannot truly return to its glory days until the Americans finally sell.
Protests have followed their ownership for years, fuelled by debt, sporting decline and frustration over how one of football’s greatest institutions has been run.
That backdrop makes every difficult spell under Michael Carrick uncomfortable, even after he guided the Red Devils to third place last season.
The new campaign has been bruising.
United opened with a 2-0 defeat at newly-promoted Hull City before responding with a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town.
They then surrounded a lead in a 2-2 draw at Everton before sweeping Sabah FK aside 4-0 in the Champions League.
Momentum disappeared again.
Ten-man Manchester City won 1-0 at Old Trafford, while Brighton overturned a 2-0 deficit to dump United out of the Carabao Cup 3-2.
More recently, Matheus Cunha needed an 89th-minute deflected equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw at Fulham.
Next comes rock-bottom Tottenham Hotspur, the club who beat United in the 2025 Europa League final.
However, the manager reportedly facing the sack is not Carrick.
Heavy reports that Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles is under severe pressure after an 0-4 start.
The Buccaneers are also owned by the Glazer family, creating another managerial headache within their sporting empire.
Heavy says the question surrounding Bowles is increasingly when, rather than if, he will be dismissed.
However, no decision has officially been announced.
Tampa Bay place again in Week 5 on Thursday night.
The report claims that if the Glazers decide to make a chance, the period immediately after the game would be the obvious opportunity.
The Buccaneers would have 10 days between games, providing considerably more time for any interim appointment to settle into the role.
There is also an argument for keeping Bowles.
Tampa Bay lack an obvious interim replacement, while continuing their miserable season could leave them with a valuable top-three pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
For the Glazers, another defeat could therefore force a major decision.
