Manchester United have made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt for their star forward Hugo Ekitike amid interest from Liverpool and Chelsea. The Red Devils have prioritised the attacking department during the early stages of their transfer campaign to fix the squad.
Under Ruben Amorim, United failed to rejuvenate their form last season after facing a bad start under Erik ten Hag. Amorim established his tactical style of play, which is very different to what Ten Hag demanded from the current squad.
The squad failed to adjust to his demands, and things went from bad to worse as the club finished 15th. As the Red Devils missed the European competition qualification for next season, they have a golden opportunity to repair themselves.
United are targeting quality over quantity with the intention to make a lean squad by selling their surplus as well. They have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves to bolster their attack, using his versatility and capability to adapt easily.
At the same time, the Red Devils are working on securing the signature of Bryan Mbeumo with ongoing transfer negotiations. The prolific 25-year-old Brentford star has enjoyed a similar high-scoring success that Cunha has in the Premier League last season.
Ekitike fits the profile as the lead striker under Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation, with Cunha and Mbeumo behind the young Frenchman. The 22-year-old could achieve what Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have failed to achieve by establishing himself as a regular.
We All Follow United recently covered that United are targeting the 22-year-old as an alternative to Arsenal-bound forward Viktor Gyokeres. According to The Mirror, United have made contact with Frankfurt for Ekitike amid interest from rivals Liverpool and Chelsea.
However, the German club have put a steep €100m (£85.5m) valuation on their high-scoring French forward, creating a big transfer conundrum. United have struggled with financial restraint in recent transfer windows, and need to sell before they can buy new players.
