Tottenham players breathed a sigh of relief when the referee blew the final whistle in their Champions League clash against Bodo/Glimt. For large parts of the game, the Lilywhites looked far from their best, leaving Thomas Frank questioning how his side were second-best in almost every department. In fact, Spurs could have easily gone into the break trailing had the Norwegian side been more clinical with their finishing.
The warning signs were ignored, and Tottenham deservingly went two goals down early in the second half after Jens Petter Hauge struck twice in quick succession. The Lilywhites had no answers for him and looked disjointed from the very first whistle. But, against all odds, Thomas Frank’s men eventually grew into the game and staged a dramatic late fightback.
Micky van de Ven pulled one back for Tottenham in the 68th minute, before an own goal from Bodo defender Jostein Gundersen rescued the Lilywhites with a dramatic equaliser in the dying minutes. While the North Londoners left Norway with a valuable point, they will no doubt reflect on the result as a missed opportunity for three.
Looking back, Thomas Frank will be pleased his team showed the resilience to fight back and avoid their first Champions League defeat of the season. Spurs looked leggy and out of ideas for long spells, but the second-half comeback ensured they left with something to show for their efforts.
Speaking to the club’s official media team to review the performance in Norway, Frank said (via X),
“I think the players showed great attitude, great mentality and great determination, which I think is very important to have in a team. The players really fought hard. That kept us in the game and got us back into the game. Going 2-2 from 2-0 down against Bodo is very good.”

The Spurs manager added,
“I think we need to be happy with the point. When you’re down 2-0 with 20 mins to go in the Champions League against a very good home side, I think we need to be happy with the point. The way we showed character will bring us a long way. Very happy with that and the players.”
Thomas Frank believes his players showed a lot of character and fight to come from 2-0 down and clinch a point against Bodo/Glimt. The Danish tactician believes the comeback not only prevented his side from returning to N17 empty-handed but also highlighted a growing sense of belief and togetherness within the squad – something he hopes will serve them well in the months ahead.
Spurs fans will now be eager to see this fighting mentality carried into the Premier League. With Leeds United up next at Elland Road this weekend, the Lilywhites will look to turn character into points as they aim to climb higher up in the league table under Thomas Frank’s guidance.
