Gustaf Lagerbielke appears to be nearing his Celtic exit after another Italian side emerged for his signature. The Swedish central defender has had limited game time since coming to Glasgow last summer; however, a departure in January was halted due to an injury crisis to Brendan’s backline.

According to Football Scotland, Lecce and Frosinone are set to compete for the signature of Lagerbielke. Lecce had been close to signing the player earlier this year but Celtic pulled the plug on this deal as they feared Cameron Carter-Vickers had picked up another injury. Now, it appears that Celtic are set to sell the 24-year-old after an underwhelming year at the club.

Lagerbielke signed for Celtic after being recommended to the club by Carl Starfelt’s agent, who switched to La Liga to join Celta Vigo. The £3m switch was expected to be a replacement for his compatriot, with Maik Nawrocki also arriving in the summer.H owever, the Swedish central defender made just ten appearances as well as scoring one goal – the win against Feyenoord in the UCL.

Stephen Welsh and Nawrocki are ahead of Lagerbielke with CCV and Liam Scales were the preferred pairing for Rodgers as Celtic won a Double. Hopefully, Celtic can recoup some of the cash that they paid to Elfsborg last summer.
