Hamstring injury puts £30m Manchester United sale in doubt

Manchester United could shift their transfer plans immediately after Andre Onana suffered a hamstring injury, ruling him out for pre-season. Man United have contemplated the future of the goalkeeping position even before this recent development that could force their hand.

The Red Devils signed Onana as a replacement for their long-serving, legendary goalkeeper David De Gea in the 2023 summer. However, the 29-year-old Cameroonian instantly gained infamy for making regular mistakes and failing to save easy chances for the club.

Last season, Man United endured their worst campaign in recent history, and the fans are demanding drastic changes this summer. They finished 15th in the Premier League and also lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur, who finished 17th.

The same drastic change is what Ruben Amorim intends to implement after succeeding Erik ten Hag at United last season. Amorim’s style of play proved too much for the squad he inherited, which has failed consistently under Ten Hag, too.

We All Follow United recently covered that United are ready to sell Onana for £30m, despite buying him for £47.2m. The Red Devils are operating under the sell-to-buy policy due to their current financial predicament after the past frivolous spending.

According to The Athletic, Onana has suffered a hamstring injury, sidelining him for the pre-season tour with United this summer. While Man United would find it hard to sell the Cameroonian at this stage, they could sign a replacement first.

The Red Devils have already made a concrete move for Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez, who is reportedly worth £45m. Rest assured, Onana’s situation has gone from bad to worse, as he will find it hard to regain his place.

As for United, the club could benefit from having a goalkeeper whom the outfield players could trust to stay reliable. The position demands trust as uncertainty causes a ripple effect in the team, giving a psychological advantage to the opposition.
