Josep Martinez is on the verge of replacing Yann Sommer in goal after the latter’s horror show in Saturday’s match between Juventus and Inter Milan.

According to FCInterNews, Sommer’s performance in Inter’s 4-3 defeat in Turin could cost him a starting berth at San Siro.

Yann Sommer heavily underperformed in last weekend’s Derby d’Italia.

In addition to conceding from all four shots on target, the 36-year-old made several uncharacteristic mistakes.

Indeed, he should have done more to prevent Khephren Thuram from making it 3-3.

Moreover, Vasilije Adzic caught him off guard as he inspired Juventus’ comeback in the dying moments of the game.

With Sommer experiencing a sharp decline in form, it’s perhaps time for Josep Martinez to prove his worth.

Indeed, Cristian Chivu considers benching the Swiss veteran in favor of the Spanish goalkeeper.

This situation bears much resemblance to Samir Handanovic’s fall from grace a few years ago.

Back then, Simone Inzaghi decided to trust Andre Onana over the Nerazzurri stalwart.

Though it was a gamble, it paid dividends as the Cameroonian star excelled between the sticks.

Hopefully, Martinez may do the same.
