Manchester United’s attention this summer has largely centred around strengthening Michael Carrick’s first-team squad as preparations continue for a demanding season ahead.

Recruitment at Old Trafford has focused on building a team capable of competing across multiple competitions.

Although transfer speculation surrounding the men’s squad has dominated headlines, United have remained equally committed to investing in young talent throughout the club.

Developing players capable of one day representing Manchester United at the highest level continues to be one of the club’s biggest priorities.

That long-term vision has now been highlighted once again through another promising youngster making an important step in her career.

Harlow Allen officially signs contract with Manchester United

Manchester United academy midfielder Harlow Allen has officially signed a new contract with the club for the upcoming season, continuing a journey that first began when she signed her initial deal with United back in 2020.

The teenager has spent several years progressing through the club’s academy system and remains one of the exciting young prospects developing within the women’s pathway.

Harlow Allen, who also represents Wales at youth international level, will continue her development at Carrington as she works towards eventually breaking into the Manchester United Women’s first team.

The youngster marked the occasion by sharing a photograph of herself signing the contract on Instagram alongside the caption, “A pinch me moment.”

The milestone carries even greater significance considering the challenges Harlow Allen has overcome away from football.

She was diagnosed with severe anaemia at just three years old but has continued to pursue her football ambitions, developing into one of the club’s promising midfield talents despite those early health setbacks.

Her long-term ambition will undoubtedly be to follow the pathway into the Women’s Super League with Manchester United, where several academy graduates have already shown that opportunities exist for young players willing to earn them.

Allen can also look to one of the club’s newest rising stars for inspiration.

Layla Drury recently signed her first professional contract with Manchester United at just 17 years old after making history as the club’s youngest-ever player and goalscorer following her breakthrough into the senior side.

Drury’s rapid rise demonstrates the clear pathway available for academy players who continue to impress throughout their development.

Manchester United have also reinforced their commitment to youth development in recent days by handing first professional contracts to Scarlett Hill and Jess Anderson.

Alongside rewarding academy graduates, the club have also strengthened the senior squad with the signing of Andrea Medina from Atletico de Madrid Femenino as preparations continue for the new season.

Allen still has plenty of development ahead of her, but Manchester United clearly believe she possesses the qualities needed to continue progressing through their academy.
