Manchester United have been on a good run of form since Michael Carrick appointment as interim boss.

But with injuries pilling up, every setback is being felt a little more than usual at this stage of the campaign.

Injuries are now not the only thing hampering United’s steady progress.

United have now been dealt another blow after Harry Maguire was formally charged by the FA following his dismissal against Bournemouth.

The incident occurred late in the march when Maguire was shown a red card, a decision that proved costly as Bournemouth went on the equalise from the resulting penalty.

Frustration got the better of the experienced centre-bac, who reacted angrily towards referee Stuart Attwell before also confronting the fourth official as he left the pitch.

The FA have since confirmed the charge on X, stating, “Harry Maguire has been charged after being sent off in the 78th minute of Manchester United FC’s Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth on Friday 20 March.

“It’s alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive an/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal.

“Harry Maguire has until Thursday 2 April to provide a response.”

This adds another layer of concern for United, who are already stretched thin at the back heading into a crucial run of fixtures.

Lisandro Martinez remains sidelined, although will reportedly travel with the group to Ireland, while Matthijs de Ligt is also unavailable with a back issue, leaving limited options in central defence.

Despite heavy criticism in recent seasons, Maguire has worked his way back into contention and has been relied upon heavily.

There is also an expectation that Maguire will extend his stay at Old Trafford, with talks progressing over a one-year contract extension.
