Lucas Bergvall draws Jude Bellingham comparison amidst strong start to life under Thomas Frank at Tottenham

Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall is grabbing all the media spotlight in recent days for all the right reasons. The Sweden international is living his dream at N17 by playing in the biggest competitions week in week out. And the 19-year-old is being utilised to his strengths by Thomas Frank, giving him the opportunity to showcase his talent regularly.

The Danish tactician is known for bringing out the best in his players and develop them into world-beaters. That is exactly what Frank is doing with Bergvall, with the midfielder looking stronger and better than last season. The ex-Brentford boss is utilising Bergvall as a #10 this season, giving the Swede some freedom to make mistakes and create chances out of nothing.

The 19-year-old’s recent performance against West Ham showed what he can do in the final third of the pitch. The talented midfielder made a darting run into the box after seeing a gap between the defenders and the keeper. And he was found by Romero via a looping through ball, giving Bergvall the perfect opportunity to score a free header from close range. The advanced role helped him play a crucial part in giving the Lilywhites a lead against Villarreal in the Champions League as well.

Tottenham starlet Lucas Bergvall has endured a perfect week after a string of strong performances

It looks like Lucas Bergvall is quickly becoming a mainstay in the Tottenham lineup under Thomas Frank. The Sweden international’s strong performance against Villarreal was proof that he is only getting better this season. The midfielder’s linkup with Kudus and Pedro Porro showed the maturity in his game as he made smart attacking runs down the channels.

Now, David Bentley has taken the opportunity to compare Bergvall’s role as a #10 to Jude Bellingham’s role at Real Madrid. Speaking on the Inside Spurs podcast by talkSPORT, Bentley said,

“He’s a great player, so positive on the ball. And if you’ve got a player like that in your team, making them forward runs. He’s like, you know, that Bellingham type, sort of running forward, that strong with the ball.”

The ex-Spurs player added,

“And his head never goes down. He makes mistakes. And he seems like a player that can brush off mistakes easily. And to have a player like that in your team, it certainly sets that tempo.”

David Bentley believes Lucas Bergvall is always positive on the ball and likes to make attacking runs whenever there is an opening. The ex-player points out the similarities between the Swede and Jude Bellingham, highlighting both players’ similar attributes with and without the ball. Bentley also suggests that the 19-year-old tends to learn from his mistakes quickly and sets the tempo for the Lilywhites.

There are still parts of his game that the teenager needs to improve on. But the positive signs are clear to see, and fans are hoping that Bergvall manages to continue his good run and become a mainstay in the team under Thomas Frank.
