Hayden Hackney remains on Manchester United’s radar as the summer transfer window begins.

Michael Carrick has continued to push for midfield reinforcements.

Earlier this month, reports suggested that Carrick was personally driving for a move for the Championship star after working closely with him during his time at Middlesbrough.

However, the competition for the midfielder’s signature is beginning to intensify.

Recent reports have also claimed that Hackney himself favours a move elswhere.

This would create another obstacle for any pursuit from Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mail, an opening £18 million offer has now been rejected by Middlesbrough.

The bid was lodged by Everton, who have been in talks with the midfielder and remain keen to strengthen their options in the centre of the park this summer.

Hayden Hackney has developed into one of the EFL’s most highly-rated young talents.

The 23-year-old has attracted attention from a number of Premier League clubs after another impressive campaign.

His composure in possession, passing range and ability to control matches have made him one of the standout midfielders outside the top flight.

United have also been heavily linked with Hackney.

Carrick handed Hackney opportunities during his time at the Riverside Stadium and is believed to be a huge admirer of the midfielder’s qualities.

The United boss is keen to add further depth to the squad.

The Red Devils have already reached an agreement with Atalanta for Brazilian midfielder Ederson.

Reports have suggested that Hayden Hackney favours a move to Everton should he leave Middlesbrough this season.

The Daily Mail adds that the Merseyside club are expected to return with an improved proposal after seeing their first approach knocked back.

With the transfer window in its early stages and Premier League interest continuing to grow, Middlesbrough could yet find themselves at the centre of a significant battle for one of English football’s brightest midfield prospects.
