Hellas Verona 1-2 Inter Milan: Telelombardia Director Defends Bisseck Call: 'Anyone Who Says Red Does Not Know The Rules'

Fabio Ravezzani, director of Telelombardia, has leapt to the defence of referee Daniele Doveri and Inter defender Yann Bisseck after Sunday’s controversial moment in the 2-1 win over Verona.

Bisseck was shown a yellow card for a foul on Giovane in the second half, a decision that caused heated debate on social media.

Many fans and pundits claimed the challenge warranted a red for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity (DOGSO).

However, Ravezzani dismissed the criticism as both biased and uninformed.

“For those who ignore the rules,” Ravezzani wrote on X.

“A red card for a clear goalscoring chance depends on three conditions – the short distance to goal, the direction of play being towards goal, and the absence of defenders able to recover. In Verona, none of the first two applied, and possibly not even the third.”

The veteran journalist didn’t hold back in his assessment of those attacking the referee’s call.

“Anyone saying it’s a red simply doesn’t know the law – or is just an anti-Inter supporter,” he added.

Ravezzani’s stance echoes the analysis from former referees Luca Marelli and Gianpaolo Calvarese.

Indeed, both also agreed that Doveri’s yellow card was the correct interpretation.

Both highlighted that the ball was moving away from goal and that Petar Sucic or Alessandro Bastoni were close enough to recover defensively, ruling out the conditions required for a DOGSO expulsion.

The debate around the incident has further fuelled discussions on VAR consistency in Serie A.

However, in this case, the consensus among officiating experts appears to be clear: no red, and no error.
