A lot of questions have been asked regarding Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham beyond the summer. The Australian is increasingly under pressure to retain his job at N17 after enduring a disastrous Premier League campaign. However, the 59-year-old did manage to make a case for himself after ending the club’s long-standing trophy drought by winning the Europa League this season.
The Lilywhites ended a 17-year wait for a major trophy in spectacular fashion as they beat Manchester United 1-0 in an enthralling final. Winning the competition also meant that Spurs qualified for Champions League football for next season. The North London club now have something to look forward to as they look to build on the Europa League success next year.
But for Big Ange, the result in the final might not be enough to save himself from getting sacked at N17. It was reported earlier that Daniel Levy was still leaning towards sacking Ange Postecoglou in the summer, despite the Europa League success that the club has endured during the Australian’s tenure. It is fair to say that many fans and players are still backing the ex-Celtic boss to stay at the club, despite the poor domestic campaign.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is kept in the dark regarding his future at N17. The Australian has exceeded all expectations this season and managed to win the Europa League against all odds. Even though the Lilywhites endured a disastrous Premier League campaign, Spurs have now qualified for Champions League football for next season.
Now, Alasdair Gold believes Ange Postecoglou will be backed by the North London club heading into the summer. Talking on his own YouTube channel, Gold said,
“He kind of delivered what was asked of him. Across two seasons, a fifth-place finish after losing Harry Kane and essentially a big rebuild. Second season, a trophy and Champions League football on the table, as well as, Super Cup in August. So I guess it would be very hard to argue that Postecoglou hasn’t met all the targets set out for him. We’ll wait and see what happens, but it’s a difficult case to make for a dismissal.”
Alasdair Gold suggests that Ange Postecoglou has delivered everything that was asked of him during the start of the season. The Spurs boss managed to lead the club to a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League last season after losing Harry Kane. Gold adds that Big Ange also ensured Champions League football for next season and won a major trophy after exceeding all expectations. So, sacking the Australian would be a harsh decision after the ex-Celtic boss achieved all the objectives that were set out for him.
It remains to be seen what decision Daniel Levy will take regarding the managerial situation at the club. Ange Postecoglou has remained adamant that he is the right man for the job at N17. So, Levy has a huge decision to make in the coming days as Spurs look to kickstart a new era after ending their trophy drought.
