Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Manchester United are interested in signing top centre back, Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga star is reportedly “not 100% satisfied” with his current situation in Germany. Arsenal are also discussing the potential signing of the player according to Fabrizio Romano.

Manchester United Have Matthijs De Ligt on Their Radar

Dutch Defender Unhappy With His Situation at Munich

Plettenberg has reported that the Netherlands international is on the shortlist for United. According to the report, “De Ligt and Man United could become a hot topic in the summer” in case Erik ten Hag remains the manager for the Red Devils. The past connection between the two Dutchmen from their time at AFC Ajax could prove pivotal in coming to an agreement.

The journalist revealed that despite being a popular figure in the dressing room at Bayern, the player is not entirely happy with his situation. Lack of playing time and not being the first choice for Tuchel is reported to be the main reason behind the 24-year-old’s dissatisfaction.

Both Romano and Plettenberg have reported that the deal is unlikely to happen in the January transfer window. The centre-back is currently injured and his transfer is mostly a topic of discussion for the 2024 summer window.

Arsenal Could Give Stiff Competition to United for the Player’s Signature

Romano has reported that the former Juventus defender is in high demand with multiple English clubs keeping an eye on the situation. According to the Italian journalist, Arsenal recently held a meeting where the robust defender’s name was a topic of discussion.

The transfer market insider did not provide any concrete information regarding the Gunners’ interest. However, the situation can change and the “superstar” could be the subject of a bidding war in the summer transfer window.
