Manchester United have been looking to strengthen their roster in the current summer transfer window, and Ruben Amorim looks to strengthen his squad to bring quality to his roster at Old Trafford, and per the latest reports, the Portuguese head coach has been eyeing a move for Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Sara from Galatasaray.
The Premier League heavyweights had a disastrous Premier League campaign last season where they finished right at the bottom of the table in the English top tier as they finished 15th in the league table. But INEOS have wanted no time in compounding their squad as United add Brazilian international Matheus Cunha to the roster at M16, while the chiefs at Carrington are also pushing ahead with a move for Bryan Mbeumo alongside him; now there is interest in adding another Brazilian to their midfield.
In Gabriel Sara, the Manchester Reds are looking to settle on their plans for the midfield for the upcoming season after securing the future of Bruno Fernandes. The future of veteran midfielder Casemiro at M16 is still doubtful given how the club is looking to ship his hefty wages off the books, and then there have been questions raised over Kobbie Mainoo as well given his hefty wage demands, which has led the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea to try to take the academy graduate away from United.
And now Amorim & Co. are looking to bolster the midfield options with Sara, given that the Turkish giants would be willing to hear offers worth around £25m this summer, which would be a £10m book profit for them in a year’s time.
How can Sara fit in at M16?
The former Norwich City midfielder, who has been described as magical, can play in a box-to-box hybrid role (as a #8 as well as #10) at Man Utd. Given that Ruben Amorim likes to play a secondary runner or playmaker besides a defensive pivot, he can play Sara in more of a hybrid role given how the Brazilian is good at linking defence to attack. The 25-year-old has also shown vision complemented by pressing intelligence and vertical passing during his time in Turkey.
We saw how he thrived playing in a high-tempo transitional setup at Galatasaray, and this could be seen in his 10 assists for them and that 83.6% pass accuracy. This ability to drive forward and open passing lanes is something that the Portuguese head coach will love, given his aggressive counter-press structure that thrives on vertical transitions.
Strengths
He is a hybrid player that is capable of playing in different roles across midfield, and this will hand Man Utd a sense of tactical versatility in games. And the fact that he is press resistant and strong under pressure situations will likely help the Portuguese head coach get a progressive player capable of carrying and retaining in the middle of the park. Sara can also rotate roles with other players, which could be critical in different game sets.
Sara brings to the table what United currently lack, given his vertical midfield movements complemented by his chance-creating abilities.
Weaknesses
He has limited experience in England, given his one season at Norwich City. Andy, whilst Sara has a lot of skill sets, he isn’t able to replicate his versatility into goal scoring quite often, so United will have to pair him with a goal scorer midfielder. The 25-year-old isn’t a dominant player in the air.
How can Gabriel Sara complement other players at United?
As I mentioned about his rotational capacity before, Sara can rotate as a playmaker with someone like Bruno along the games at M16, given how he can ease the pressure whilst introducing a variety of options to get better at offensive situations. He also has a timed delivery which can suit the likes of Amad and Cunha, given their intricate movements along the channels.

Gabriel Sara looks like a tactically clever player who has that dynamism that Manchester United need under Ruben Amorim. He also has that creative understanding complemented by transitional flair that could compound a lot under the Portuguese head coach. And then he doesn’t come at a very big financial commitment.

With just a few days left until the big Premier League kick off, Chelsea are in a tricky situation. The Blues have done great work this summer, but are still down a key player after the ACL injury to Levi Colwill last week. There are plenty of rumours about who they might try and sign late in the window to replace him, and today we have word of a brand new, thrilling attempt to sign a Premier League star. Konate signing would instantly improve Chelsea Ibrahima Konate has become one of the best centre backs in the league in his time at Liverpool, but the Reds have not managed to persuade him to sign a new contract, and he has just one year left to run. That’s leading to a lot of speculation he could be sold this summer rather than be allowed to walk for free in a year. The main interest in Konate so far has come from Real Madrid, who seem to be trying to play their classic trick of tipping a player off that they want to sign him when his contract expires, then sitting back and letting him fall into their lap. But our sources tell us that Chelsea are willing to test Konate and Madrid’s nerve by offering Liverpool serious money for the France international. Chelsea’s “direct offer” likely to fail thanks to hovering Real Madrid Chelsea “plan to make a direct offer” for Konate, although Liverpool are “opposed to the idea of selling Konate to one of it’s direct Premier League rivals.” Of course if the offer is big enough they’ll have to consider it – but given Chelsea’s current model it’s hard to imagine them breaking the bank for an established star. If they do sign someone, it seems far more likely it’s a player from far further down the food chain, a rising star, not a player with a big offer from Real Madrid in their back pocket.
Patriots have big Drake Maye concern surface at Vikings' joint practice
Defense ruled the day during the joint practice between the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings. Per Chad Graff of The Athletic, the Patriots defense did a masterful job of disrupting Vikings second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy at Wednesday's practice. However, New England's offensive line was unable to allow Drake Maye to have enough time to finish plays. "Even with four new expected starters up front following last year’s debacle, Wednesday suggested that there will likely be some bumps ahead for this offensive line," Graff wrote. "Sure, going up against the Vikings was always going to be a difficult task. Greenard has been wrecking his own team’s practices in training camp, and everyone in New England knows how good Flores’ scheme can be. But the domination was so thorough by the Vikings’ front seven that three straight plays at one point would’ve resulted in a sack." Maye showed flashes of promise when he had time to throw downfield or was able to use his legs to buy time or scramble when pressure came. The concern is that the offensive line won't allow Maye enough time to even scramble, so he can make throws. Graff has noticed the same issues that happened on Wednesday have been a constant at training camp against the Patriots defense. With a new-look offensive line that includes first-round pick Will Campbell at left tackle, the Patriots are expected to have some bumps at training camp and in September. New England's offense probably won't look great out of the gate while the offensive line develops in offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels' scheme. If and when the offensive line improves, Maye will have a chance to show off the arm that made him the No. 3 pick in 2024. For now, the offensive line is a concern much like it was last season.
Phillies superstar may be building Hall of Fame case
Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber is in the midst of another impressive season. Schwarber entered Wednesday having posted a .249/.373/.578 batting line in his 528 plate appearances this season, hitting 42 homers while driving in a National League-leading 97 runs. The Phillies slugger was named to his third All-Star Game this season and, according to NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, he should be the NL MVP. Schwarber has been one of baseball's premier power hitters since establishing himself in the majors in 2017. He's in his eighth season of hitting 30 or more homers and has reached the 40-homer plateau three times in his four seasons in Philadelphia. The 32-year-old Schwarber may find himself in elite company when his career comes to an end. He has already hit 326 homers in his career, potentially giving him a chance to reach the 500-home run plateau. If Schwarber does hit 500-plus homers, the narrative around his career may change. There have only been 28 players in MLB history to reach that plateau, 19 of whom are in the Hall of Fame. Two players — Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera — are not yet eligible and are expected to be enshrined on the first ballot. The seven players who have not been inducted into the Hall of Fame have been linked to PED use, torpedoing their candidacy. At the same time, his entire candidacy may be based on his home run total. Schwarber has a lifetime .232/.346/.499 batting line over 5,188 plate appearances; although batting average no longer carries much weight for the voters, he would have the lowest batting average of any non-pitcher in the Hall. His 20.7 fWAR has been dragged down by his defense and is unlikely to make him a favorite among the younger voters who put more emphasis on such metrics. Schwarber is marching toward the 500-home run plateau. If he does reach that mark, he could be a polarizing Hall of Fame candidate.
Former Oregon WR's career may have new life after transfer decision
Ryan Pellum's career with the Oregon Ducks was over before it even started, but it may have new life. The former four-star wideout from Long Beach, California, was ranked as the No. 26 wide receiver in the 2024 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. Pellum took a redshirt last season at Oregon before hitting the transfer portal in January. He was then arrested and charged with assault with use of a firearm after he allegedly pistol-whipped someone in his hometown on Christmas Day in 2024. In June, Pellum was sentenced to probation as part of a plea deal, and now he's trying to get his college football hopes back on track. As such, it's being reported that Pellum will transfer to Delaware State for the 2025 season. Notably, he'll be joining up with former NFL star and three-time Pro Bowler DeSean Jackson, who is heading into his first season as the Hornets' head coach. As a senior in high school, Pellum caught 66 passes for 991 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was at one time committed to USC, but he flipped to Dan Lanning and the Ducks on signing day. Delaware State, located in Dover, Delaware, is an FCS program that is a part of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). The Hornets went 2-21 over the past two seasons under head coach Lee Hull, who was fired less than two years after he took over the program.
