How Did Diogo Jota & His Brother Die In Zamora? Cause of Death Explained

The world of soccer mourns the loss of Liverpool's Diogo Jota , who passed away today at the age of 28. The Portuguese star died in Zamora, Spain, due to a car crash, along with his younger brother, Andre Silva , who played for Penafiel in Portugal's second division.

Liverpool FC and many soccer stars around the world have given their thoughts on the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.

The Portuguese international sadly played his last soccer game in the UEFA Nations League Final for Portugal against Spain last month. He played 15 minutes in the match where Portugal drew 2-2 against Spain but won 5-3 on penalties.

Jota also won the Premier League with Liverpool this past season, where he played 26 league matches and started in 14. He scored six goals and provided three assists. His last goal for Liverpool was against Everton in a 1-0 win for the Reds at Anfield.

Details of Car Crash

According to reports from local police in Zamora, Spain, the accident occurred due to a tire blowout, causing the car to leave the road while overtaking another car.

The accident occurred around 12:35 am in Spain, and it is unclear who was driving. Jota and his brother were reportedly in a Lamborghini Urus SUV. According to the Daily Mail, the car crash reportedly occurred on the A52 at Cernadilla near the border with Portugal. 

The Spanish Guardia Civil published a full statement confirming the deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.

Spanish Guardia Civil Statement: "The information we have so far is that the car, which was a Lamborghini, was in a road traffic accident and left the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking. It was in the early hours, 00:30 local time (23:30 BST), in the municipality of Cernadilla in the province of Zamora. The car caught on fire, and the two occupants were killed."

On June 22, Jota married his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso. Jota and his partner posted pictures of the special day just a few days ago.

Liverpool fans are currently paying respects to Jota around Anfield with flowers, jerseys laid on the ground, and messages that honor the Portuguese star.
