Rodrigo De Paul will join Inter Miami for the remainder of the 2025 season. Due to Major League Soccer’s strict salary cap regulations, the Florida club couldn’t secure a permanent transfer, but managed to negotiate a loan deal with Atlético Madrid that includes an obligation to buy at the end of the six-month spell.
On the field, De Paul arrives to strengthen a Miami midfield that has struggled for consistency throughout the current MLS campaign. His ability to dictate tempo, break defensive lines with progressive passing, and contribute defensively makes him a valuable addition to Javier Mascherano’s squad.
While Miami’s attack—powered by Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez—has carried much of the load this season, the midfield’s lack of stability has been a noticeable weakness. De Paul is expected to help address that gap.
According to MLS and USMNT insider Tom Bogert, Inter Miami will use Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) to cover De Paul’s salary. Currently, Luis Suárez is the club’s only other TAM player, earning around $1.5 million. In 2025, MLS teams are allowed $2.2 million in TAM spending, which means De Paul will initially earn around $800,000 under this mechanism.
Update on Rodrigo De Paul: The current plan being communicated is that De Paul will NOT be a designated player for rest of 2025 while on loan

That would mean Inter Miami's DPs remain: Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba
TAM includes Luis Suarez & De Paul

MLS salary cap rules are designed to maintain competitive balance across the league, but clubs can work around the restrictions using mechanisms like TAM and the Designated Player rule. At Inter Miami, Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets occupy the three Designated Player slots, which allow them to earn beyond the league’s salary cap limits.
Rodrigo De Paul will join Inter Miami on a six-month loan, which includes a mandatory purchase clause at the end of the deal. Inter Miami will then be required to buy the player from Atlético Madrid for $17.4 million and negotiate a new long-term contract with De Paul.
From Atlético Madrid’s perspective, the loan is a strategic financial decision after signing Álex Baena, Johnny Cardoso, and Tiago Almada during the summer transfer window.
According to Salary Sport, Rodrigo De Paul’s net worth is estimated at approximately $31 million. His weekly salary at Atlético Madrid is around $120,000, totaling approximately $6.3 million per year.
Other reports indicate that his current contract includes potential bonuses and performance-based incentives that could bring his annual earnings to approximately $7.3 million gross. These figures reflect his primary football income and do not account for sponsorships or endorsements, which further increase his overall financial standing.
